Debate the other side of my own position
A position that's never been genuinely argued against is untested, no matter how confident it feels.
- Use it for
- Anyone who's confident in a position and wants to stress-test it against real opposing arguments.
A position that feels solid because you've thought it through alone hasn't actually been tested — the arguments you generate for yourself tend to be the ones your own reasoning already favors. Debating against someone genuinely taking the opposing side, who pushes on actual weak points rather than agreeing easily, is what reveals whether a position holds up or just feels confident.
When not to use this
If you're still forming the position and haven't committed to it yet, open exploration serves better than adversarial debate — this is for testing a position you've already reasoned your way to.
Did this work?
You encountered at least one argument you hadn't already considered, and can say specifically why your position does or doesn't hold up against it.
