Give me a recipe from what I already have

A recipe that requires a grocery run defeats the point when the goal was using what's already in the kitchen.

Use it for
Anyone who wants to cook something real tonight using only what's already on hand.

Recipe generators often assume you're planning ahead and can shop for whatever's needed, which is the opposite of the actual situation when you're looking at what's in the fridge and pantry and want something real tonight. This prompt works strictly from what you actually have, producing something genuinely cookable right now.

When not to use this

If you're planning ahead and willing to shop, a broader meal-planning prompt with more flexibility will produce better results than this constrained version.

Fill in

Prompt
Act as a creative chef. Give me a recipe I can make right now using
only these ingredients: {{ingredients}}. Salt, pepper, and cooking
oil are available. Don't suggest anything that requires an ingredient
not on this list.

Why it works

Explicitly prohibiting any ingredient not on the list is what keeps the recipe genuinely usable right now — a recipe that's 90% doable with what you have but calls for one missing ingredient just becomes another trip to the store, which defeats the entire point of asking.

Common mistakes

  • ×Accepting a recipe that quietly assumes an ingredient not actually on hand.
  • ×Providing too short or vague an ingredient list for a real recipe to be generated.

Follow-ups

  • I also have this ingredient I forgot to mention: {{additional_ingredient}}. Does that open up a better option?
  • Give me a completely different recipe from the same ingredients, in case I don't like this one.

Did this work?

You can actually cook the recipe right now with what's on hand, no extra shopping trip required.
